How to Use SPF While Wearing Makeup

The correct way to wear SPF or sunscreen is underneath makeup, directly on your skin.  Ideally we should take our makeup off and reapply but let’s be real, none of us are doing that nor do we plan to. The next best options are:

1. To wear a sunscreen underneath and touch up later on with SPF products
2. Or to find face makeup that already has SPF in it and touch up with more SPF products later.

Below are 5 beauty community favorites!

Moisturizer

Black Girl Sunscreen Broad Spectrum – SPF 30 $16
Sunscreen often leaves a purple or white cast on people with brown skin so this is honestly my favorite recommendation when it comes to a moisturizer with SPF in it. This sunscreen dries completely clear and you can wear it underneath makeup or by itself. It can definitely be used if you aren’t black, by the way, but it was formulated with black skin in mind since most other sunscreens are not. It’s also made with natural ingredients like avocado, carrot juice, jojoba, and more!

Tinted Moisturizer

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer $45
This is essentially a mix between a moisturizer and a foundation. It moisturizes the skin but is more lightweight than a foundation. Aside from SPF, it also has Vitamin C in it which evens out your skin tone over time while protecting you from sun rays.Buy it Here

Foundation

Armani Beauty Power Fabric Foundation SPF 25 $64
A liquid foundation that gives a velvet matte finish with SPF protection. This foundation does have full coverage so if you want something a bit more sheer, just use less.

Powder

Supergoop (Re)Setting 100% Mineral SPF 35 Powder $30
Supergoop is popular for its sunscreen so it’s no surprised they released a powder formula. Aside from SPF, their powder sunscreen has olive glycerides and ceramides for extra hydration. Neither make your skin look oily or cakey!Buy it Here

Setting Spray

Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF 50 $40
This is basically a high quality setting spray infused with sunscreen. It has a super fine mister, reduces shine to give a matte finish, and blurs fine lines and wrinkles.
