Glowing, radiant skin is something literally everyone strives for and Sir John, makeup artist to many celebrities including our fave Beyoncè, has just the trick. Sir John says if he has a client who’s going to hit the red carpet soon, he tells them to start drinking carrot juice two days beforehand. When I first read that a few years back, I remembered how much my mom used to make carrot juice for the holidays and how disgusted I was that someone would make juice out of a vegetable and happily drink it.
Fast forward to my adult years, I’ll literally try anything that improves your skin and your health. As soon as I read the words glowy skin, I don’t even think I finished reading the article before I hopped in my car to go to the grocery store to find some carrot juice.
When I got back home, I started doing some research to find out exactly why carrot juice has this effect. I found that it has something called beta carotenes in it. Beta carotene is an antioxidant that converts to Vitamin A and is why certain fruits and veggies have a warm color. The two foods with the highest amounts of beta carotene are carrots and sweet potatoes. I’m assuming the more you eat those two things, the warm effect that it has on those two vegetables is the same effect it has on your skin.
There are other things that have beta carotenes in them like kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, squash, cantaloupe, peas, apricots, broccoli, and red and yellow bell peppers. When you’re looking for carrot juice in the store, make sure you’re getting the one with the least amount of artificial additives. The more organic and pure the ingredients, the better the juice will be for your skin. My favorite brand is Bolthouse Farms because they add no artificial preservatives, no artificial flavors, no dairy product in it and it’s vegan and gluten free. It’s literally 100% carrot juice! I usually get it from Safeway but I’m pretty sure it’s in every grocery store.
This is the one I get, it’s about $4-$5 for a big bottle!
Try this beauty trick out for a week by drinking a glass every other day and let me know how your skin looks after the week is up!
